Our Second graders have finished our earth science unit about what shapes our Earth. When we return from winter break, we will be focusing on physical science.
We will kick off the new year by defining the properties of liquids, solids, and gases with a fun experiment that uses a frozen balloon, water balloon, and a air filled balloon. Make sure to ask your children about it.
We will plan and conduct investigations to describe and classify different kids of materials by their observable properties (color, texture, hardness and flexibility). We will also analyze date obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have the properties that are best suited for an intended purpose. We will also take an object of a small set of pieces and be able to disassemble it and create a new object. Finally, we will study how some changes that are caused by heating and cooling can be reversed while others cannot.
